Constantin Brancusi was a pioneer of modernism and one of the greatest sculptors of the 20th century. During the autumn of 2019, the latest edition of international arts festival EUROPALIA, dedicated to Romania, brought Brancusi to Belgium for the first time.
The exhibition Brancusi. Sublimation of Form at BOZAR, Brussels, brought together outstanding sculptures and photography to retrace the artist’s career. Brancusi’s teacher, Rodin, as well as his contemporaries such as Medardo Rosso, Fernand Léger, Man Ray and Marcel Duchamp also featured. A series of new performances, including a creation by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, and a workshop by ABC (Art Basics for Children) completed the exhibition.

Due to its success, Brancusi. Sublimation of Form was extended until 2 February and welcomed a total of 116,000 visitors, including an international audience.
For its next edition, EUROPALIA has chosen not a country but a contemporary theme: trains. EUROPALIA TRAINS & TRACKS will run from 14 October 2021 until 15 May 2022.
